Qualcomm said its co-founder Irwin Mark Jacobs is leaving the company’s board of directors next year. Following the company’s annual meeting in March, Jacobs will take the titles of founding chairman and CEO emeritus.

Jacobs said he is leaving "knowing that Qualcomm's strong management team and technical roadmap will ensure the company's continuing success."

Jacobs and six co-founders established Qualcomm in 1985 and served as CEO until its 20th anniversary in June 2005. He was chairman until 2009. Paul Jacobs succeeded his father as chairman and CEO.
