NTT DoCoMo has issued the first license for LTE-PF technology, unveiling an agreement with Taiwanese chip firm MediaTek to produce a handset chipset platform for global markets. The carrier has developed LTE-PF in conjunction with NEC Casio Mobile Communications, Panasonic and Fujitsu.
Some 80% of UK mobile subscribers would route calls over WiFi providing the service was free or cheaper than cellular calls, a Kineto Wireless survey found. The poll of 2,176 users also revealed that iPhone owners use WiFi the most, with 33% using the device compared to 20% for Nokia, and RIM’s 17%.
Canada's Rogers Communications grew net profit 13% to C$464 million (€344.7 million) in the June quarter.
The Malawi Communications and Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has fined G Mobile around €5 million for failing to live up to its rollout schedule.
