Nokia Siemens Networks claims a new dynamic frequency and channel allocation (DFCA) feature will boost the capacity of GSM networks within existing spectrum and without adding new base stations.
 
Deutsche Telekom has appointed Thomas Kiessling chief product and innovation officer. Kiessling has 20 years experience in telecoms, IT and online product development, and most recently was CTO at online gaming firm bwin.
 
Telefonica’s Argentina subsidiary Movistar today launched an instant messenger service for mobile phones, using a version of messaging specialist Synchronica’s Java client that is configured for Microsoft’s Windows Live Messenger application.
 
Cisco has been contracted to install an IP phone network at the Hong Ngoc Hospital, Vietnam’s first private hospital.
 
TeliaSonera subsidiary UCell has demonstrated LTE services using a pilot network from ZTE. The Uzbekistan-based mobile carrier streamed video, transferred files, and conducted VoIP calls during the trial.
 
PCCW Global has upgraded its Dual Stack IP product to run IPv6 services alongside the current IPv4 set-up, via a single connection.
 
Telefonica will begin deploying LTE in East Germany in September, with a pilot network supplied by Nokia Siemens Networks. The 800MHz and 2.6GHz network is due to be up and running for trials by the end of the year.
