Nortel will today begin the auction for its Optical Networking and Carrier Ethernet assets. NSN and private investment firm One Equity are rumored to have made a joint offer to challenge Ciena's stalking horse bid.
 
Avaya has received clearance from the European Commission to acquire Nortel’s enterprise solutions business. Avaya expects to close the transaction in December 2009.
 
Alcatel-Lucent has completed the first live LTE test call on the 800 MHz “European digital dividend” spectrum.
 
Google has previewed its Google Chrome OS. The software, which has an interface based on its web browser namesake, should be available before the end of 2010.

Ericsson has launched the first commercially available EDGE Evolution solution, which the vendor is billing as a “shortcut to mobile broadband.”
 

Behavioral online advertising provider Adknowledge has acquired the advertising business of SocialMedia.com.
