France Telecom boss Stephane Richard is prepared to pay up to $650 million (€493 million) for a 40% stake in Moroccan carrier Meditel, as part of a five-year plan to double revenues from emerging markets, FT.com reports.
Chilean utility cost management firm Entel will deploy a data center jointly developed by Cisco, NetApp and VMWare in a new on-demand facility. The trio unveiled the fiber channel over Ethernet product late July.
IT security firm Kaspersky has reported the first Android Trojan embedded inside a media player on some Russian devices, the New York Times reports. The virus sends text messages to premium-rate phone numbers.
Dell will launch its Streak tablet in the US tomorrow, but only customers who pre-ordered the iPad rival will be allowed to buy it. Other customers must wait until Friday to pick up the device, which costs $300 (€227) from AT&T or $550 contract-free, Brighthand.com reports.
NTT Communications will acquire Secode to shore-up its position in the Nordic managed services market. The purchase is being brokered by NTT’s German subsidiary.
Global spending on IT equipment by businesses will grow 2.9% to $2.4 trillion (€1.8 trillion) in 2010, research firm Gartner predicts.
