AT&T has chosen Alcatel-Lucent as one of the suppliers of packet core equipment for its IP/MPLS/Ethernet network. The deal includes supply of mobile backhaul equipment and paves the way for trials later this year ahead of commercial launch in 2011.

Separately, Alcatel-Lucent and EADS Defence and Security plan to demonstrate interoperability between a live LTE network and a digital land mobile radio at a public safety conference next month.

South Korean telco LG Uplus is set to launch cloud services based on Microsoft’s software platforms for business users.

Former HP general counsel Joyce Norcini will take up the same position with Nokia Siemens Networks from August 2, the firm announced yesterday.

NTT DoCoMo has branded its LTE network Xi, pronounced ‘crossy’. The network is due to launch in December.

Microsoft has once more talked up its tablet range while showing off new Samsung and LG phones running Windows Phone 7.

Mobile device sales in India are forecast to reach 138.6m in 2010, an increase of 18.5% over 2009, according to Gartner.
