Alcatel-Lucent hopes to communicate its strategy more effectively by appointing its first chief marketing, strategy and communication officer. Stephen Carter, a former minister in the UK government’s technology communications sector, was confirmed in the role yesterday.
 
Russian business-news agency Prime TASS will gain access to an extra 14,000 outlets and reduce the number of connections  it uses, after agreeing a deal to put its content on BT’s Radianz Shared Market Infrastructure.
 
Mobile ticketing firm Trinity Mobile grew the number of airline boarding passes it distributed by SMS from 50,000 in 2008, to 600,000 in 2009.
 
US hedge fund Elliott Associates has offered to buy business software maker Novell for $2 billion (€1.47 billion), or $5.75 per share – an offer likely to be raised to more closely match Novell's share price.
 
Books now outnumber games on Apple's iPhone app store for the first time in the device's history, according to mobile advertising company Mobclix.
 
BT has been contracted to provide communications optimisation services for Deutsche Post DHL, in a contract worth “double digit million pounds.”
 
Deutsche Telecom'scorporate arm, T-Systems, narrowed its operating losses 80% to €65 million, while lifting its ebitda to €139 million from negative €119 million.
