It's been said for some time that biomedical apps will be one of the hottest trends in the mobile device space. That theory got an unintentional boost in the midst of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti when a filmmaker trapped under the rubble of his hotel was rescued 65 hours later - possibly thanks to his iPhone. Dan Woolley said he used Jive Media's Pocket First Aid & CRP app to figure out how to self-treat his wounds, which included a compound fracture in his leg and a head wound, according to media reports. Also, after learning via the app that falling asleep would be a bad idea if he were in shock, Woolley set his iPhone alarm to go off every 20 minutes, reports The Register.
