The quality of MMS and WAP services provided by France’s three leading cellcos is waning, according to national regulator Arcep.
Its latest assessment of the French market shows the success rate of MMS delivered by SFR, Orange and Bouygues Telecom fell 4% in the year to December 31 2009, while the number of successful WAP connections was down 2%.
By contrast, the SMS success rate remained stable at around 99%.
The quality of voice calls remained high, with a 97.3% success rate on calls of two minutes, however the figure fell slightly to 96.6% when the test period was extended to five minutes.
Arcep assessed the quality of video-telephony for the first time, reflecting the fact that all three carriers now offer video services.
Some 88.9% of two-minute long video calls were successful, the regulator said.
