Alcatel-Lucent couldn’t escape tough trading conditions for infrastructure firms in 2009, reporting lower revenues year-on-year in 2009. However, the firm made progress in reducing its net loss over the year.

The French-US infrastructure vendor released the results early this morning, revealing revenues of €15.157 billion, down 10.8% year-over-year, and net loss of €524 million, which is down from €5.2 billion in 2008.

CEO Ben Verwaayen says the full year figures were hit by a poor Q4, when revenues fell 19.9% year-on-year to €3.96 billion, despite turning a net loss of €3.8 billion in Q408 into a profit of €46 million.

He says the prospects for 2010 are already looking better, on the back of being contracted by AT&T to supply LTE equipment alongside Ericsson.

The deal, announced yesterday, will see the trio complete trials later this year and launch commercial services in 2011.
